A survey reported on today in The Sun — which shows that Vancouverites are more distrusting than other Canadians of politicians, police, products and financial institutions — is disturbing.
Societies with low levels of trust – of leaders, institutions and their fellow citizens — are usually societies that don’t do very well. They tend to be corrupt societies. At one extreme, think Syria and Myanmar. At the other, think Finland and New Zealand.
